Chapter 6: Learning and Teaching with Technology

What constitutes a technology-enriched learning environment?

A technology enriched learning environment is one where technology is incorporated into the curriculum and everyday classroom activities. These classrooms allow students to type papers on computers, rather than writing papers all the time, and the teachers may even review the paper on screen with the students rather than reviewing printed versions. These classrooms also allow students to make presentations or videos for assignments, rather than writing essays all the time. In order for technology-enriched learning environments to be successful the students must be focusing on the content, rather than the actual software itself. These learning environments are essential because they allow for collaborative work and immediate feedback.

  1. I wonder how our educations would have been impacted if we went through school in classrooms like these?

  2. Hi Shannon
I do think that using the computer to type papers is important, but what I think is even more important is that these students learn basic typing skills. Far too many students use just a few finger to type. I think teachers must not get too involved in using the computer for students to hand in their work - they do need to learn how to write. I was placed in fourth grade last semester and I cannot believe how sloppy their handwriting was.
