How does technology use contribute to social and equity issues in schools?
Technology use contributes to social and equity issues in schools mainly when teachers are using a particular software they would like all of their students to use. The teacher may be tempted to just copy the software for all the students because it is a simple process. This is piracy, though. Some teachers might do it anyway but this sets a bad example for the students. Even though it is very easy to make copies of software there are pretty hefty consequences. There is also a problem with affording enough software for all of the students. If the teacher cannot afford the software for all of the students to use at the same time it may not be fair to allow some students to use it and not others.

Chapter 12 Simulations and Data Analysis
How can teachers develop data analysis skills in their students?
In order to develop data analysis skills in their students teachers should demonstrate how to collect, interpret, and represent data. Teachers can ask questions that require the students to back up their answers with data, or teachers can provide students with data and ask questions that require the students to interpret the data. Also, teachers can provide assignments that require students to represent data in charts like pie charts, for example.

Chapter 3: Getting to Know the World Wide Web
Q: How can email be used to enhance communication in educational communities?
A: Email can be used to enhance communication because once an email is sent to someone it shows up in their inbox almost right away. Email is easy and convenient. Teachers can use email as a way to communicate with parents and it can also be used as a way for teachers to communicate with each other. Teachers can use email in a number of different ways. For example, teachers can email information about homework assignments to parents.

Chapter 2: Productivity Tools and Application Software
Q: How can productivity software be used for teaching and learning?
A: Word processing software can be used to provide students with instant feedback on their writing. For example, Microsoft Word underlines misspelled words and incomplete sentences. Word processing software also allows both teachers and students to produce documents more quickly. Spreadsheets can be used to quickly create charts and perform functions. Online databases can be used by teachers electronically manage and access student information. This allows for teachers to have much more storage space in the classroom.

Chapter 1
Q: How have societal trends during the Information Age been influenced by technological advances?
A: Societal trends were greatly influenced during the Information Age. Prior to the Information Age workers were involved in the manufacturing of products and the economy was built on goods and services. During the Information Age workers became more involved in the creation, management, and transfer of information and the economy was built on information. Also, cognition and metacognition became more important than ever before. The three most important trends that mark the Information Age are a shift in demographics, an acceleration of technology, and an ever expanding base of available data. Some children in schools today have never lived in a world without computers, whereas people born before the Information Age may have lived in a world where computers were not yet invented. People used to have to go to the library and find actual hard copies and encyclopedias and other books for information but now people can just type information into a search engine and find all kinds of resources.
